Dear friends of ISBT,
In my role as President of ISBT, it is an immense pleasure to invite you to our upcoming international congress to be held in the attractive city of Barcelona in wonderful Spain.
This time, we can offer you the remarkable combination of a seaside congress venue with views over the Mediterranean waves whilst still located in the bustling city centre. This will for sure be a memorable event where the blood transfusion community will come together to update their knowledge and connect with colleagues from near and far.
As always, ISBT caters to many tastes within the extensive field of transfusion medicine and its practices. Like a mouth-watering Spanish tapas table, our congress is a display of many flavours to highlight different aspects of blood transfusion. We love to see the increasing engagement from new subgroups and categories of members on the rise. This is true for many but not least for our young professionals who made a big splash at our recent congress and are bound to continue leading us into the future.
In addition to the experimental and translational science, which has always been ISBT’s hallmark, we are also continuously increasing our educational offering and Barcelona will be no exception. From donor recruiters to blood groupers, from transfusion practitioners to clinicians and pathogen experts, we form our popular conference programs to span the gap between theory and practice for all the aspects of our field. This time, we will extend our hugely popular ISBT Academy Day to create an educational stream throughout the whole congress. We have also committed to offer more to directors and CEOs to make sure they remain part of our family. In parallel, we will hear the latest scientific developments from top-ranking abstract presenters, hear breaking news about recently finished and ongoing clinical trials, and discuss posters over a friendly drink and snack.
ISBT commits to give a little more to its congress delegates in general and to its members in particular. In Barcelona, we have teamed up with the Spanish Society of Blood Transfusion and Cellular Therapy, and I can already now promise you a warm welcome from our hosts who have committed together with us to make this a congress to remember. At ISBT, we always go out of our way to try and make the social program match the quality of the science and education on offer. With an ever-improving program, we have had to work really hard to keep up but those of you who have visited our past few congresses know what I am talking about: From the opening night of the meeting and exhibition, to our legendary congress parties with a local touch and live band, we expect to connect people from over hundred countries. This is how we help form international friendship, collaboration and understanding across the globe. This is what ISBT is about.
So, don’t miss out but join us in Barcelona in our efforts towards a world of safe blood!
Looking forward to seeing you all there,
Martin L Olsson
